Junior Golf Club Fitting:

Get Them Off to a Great Start!

Golf club fitting for juniors is important. If your child is not playing with equipment that is fit to his or her swing, they’re not playing to their potential. Imagine how easy learning golf could be if they have the right clubs!

Many kids clubs are color-coded by height. US Kids makes very popular clubs for the younger golfer.

Once your junior golfer outgrows his set or just becomes too advanced to use them anymore, it is a great idea to have them fit by a specialist.

See if you can find a fitting specialist at an outdoor driving range that has custom-fitting capability so you can see the vitally important ball flight. If you don’t have an outdoor range near you that does golf club fitting, you can typically find a fitting specialist at your local Golf Galaxy or other golf retailer.

A certified club fitting professional can determine your junior golfer’s personal specifications for shaft length & flex, grip size, loft, lie & head style. Many use a golf ball tracking and information system for analysis and verification.

Why is it important to have your child fit for clubs? If you just purchase a set of clubs at a big-box retailer, you may get a good deal, but the clubs may be inappropriate for your junior golfer. Shaft length is very important; the wrong length for your child may result in lack of distance, hooks or slices. Playing with the wrong lie will have an effect on the trajectory, or can cause pulls, pushes, hooks or slices. The grip size can affect the way your child holds the club, and may cause hooks or slices or too much tension in your hands. Contrary to popular belief, it does not cost more to have clubs that are fit to your child. Your junior golfer can order custom-made clubs, typically for the same price that it would cost if you bought the same set in-stock.

We are very fortunate here in Southern California to have ranges that do golf club fitting such as Carlsbad Golf Center. For more information on golf club fitting, click here to check out their website and to see what types of services they offer.
