Golf Clubs
Golf clubs are made up of three parts; the grip, the shaft and the club head.
The grip is the handle of the club.
The shaft connects the handle to the club head.
The club head is the part of the club that you hit the ball with.
The club head has a heel, face and toe.
The heel of the club head is the part of the club that joins the shaft to the club head
The face of the club head is the surface that comes in contact with the ball
The toe of the club head is that part that’s farthest from the shaft
Golf clubs that make up a set are woods, irons and a putter.
Woods
are clubs that are designed to hit your ball long and straight. They will be the longest clubs in your bag. Most clubs are made out of steel, but they used to be made out of wood, which is why they call them woods!
Irons
are used after you hit your iron and you are closer to the green. Irons hit the ball high in the air. Long irons (#1, #2, #3, #4) are hit when you are on the fairway, but are far from the hole. When you get closer, you either hit a middle iron (#5, #6, #7) or a short iron (#8, #9, Pitching Wedge).
A Sand Wedge is used when you get into a sand trap. The bottom of a sand wedge is heavy, so it helps you get the ball up in the air and out of the trap.
A
Putter
is used when your ball is on the green. It is used to roll the ball into the green with out getting the ball up in the air. Many beginner golf sets do not come with all the clubs you can get, but do come with what you will need to learn to play the game.
