Junior Golf Fitness:

Books and Videos

Many books and videos are written and produced for adults wanting to better their game, but there are only a few that focus on junior golf fitness. Here’s what we’ve found that may help your junior golfer become more physically and mentally fit.

Does your kid get really mad when he makes a bad shot? Watch this video clip where Dr. Bob Rotella talks about keeping your cool from his Practice Like a Pro Private Lessons Golf DVD Video.

Dr. Bob Rotella, one of the best-known golf sports psychologists has authored numerous books and DVDs about the mental game of golf. Your 15th Club: The Inner Secret to Great Golf, is a terrific read for anyone wanting more confidence on the course. Golf is Not a Game of Perfect is another of his bestsellers on the subject. For the first time ever on video in the 5 DVD set, Rotella Speaks, Dr. Rotella shares his secrets of the pros he’s helped. You can find his books, CDs and DVDs at Amazon.com.

Sean Cochran, one of the most recognized golf fitness instructors on the PGA Tour, has written Junior Golf Fitness, a book that focuses specifically on developing flexibility, strength and power for the junior golfer.

Another book, although not necessarily written for kids, is Yoga for Golf by Katherine Roberts. The book includes yoga postures specifically selected for a golfer's needs; proper breathing techniques; mind-relaxation methods; injury-reducing stretches; and visualization tools for success on and off the course.

If you have not looked at the Titelist Performance Institute website, www.mytpi.com, you should definitely check it out for the cutting edge in golf fitness. They have a section on the website, Junior Topics, that’s full of junior golf fitness information. You can also order the DVD, Junior Fundamentals with Denis McDade, which teaches your child the Fundamental Movement Skills that all kids need to develop in order to excel in golf.

Susan Hill has developed an e-Book you can order online, Golf Fitness for Juniors. Susan is responsible for overseeing the training over many of our world's most elite junior golfers at the International Junior Golf Academy, has trained hundreds competitive juniors from ages 7 to 18, and has consulted with the golf teams of UCLA, Texas Tech, University of Virginia and Arizona State. She travels with players on tour, her work has been featured in Golf Illustrated, SELF, Resort Living, Atlanta Golf, Pacific Northwest Golfer, ESPN and she is a regular contributor to the Junior Golf Scoreboard. You can find a lot of junior golf fitness information at Golf Fitness for Juniors, www.golftrainingforjuniors.com.
