Junior Golf Gloves:
Get the Right Fit
You may wonder whether your child should wear junior golf gloves when they are playing. While it is not necessary, most players do wear gloves when they play and you may want your child to get used to doing this while they are learning.
A glove improves grip performance. It provides a much surer grip, especially if your child’s hands are sweating or if it’s raining. Most golfers wear one glove on the top hand of their grip, so for right-handed players the left hand and for left-handed players, the right hand. Some players like to wear two gloves, this comes down to personal preference. Make sure your child gets the right fit when it comes to gloves. A poor-fitting glove can be a distraction. You should have your child try on different gloves and then grip a club to see if it’s comfortable. The glove should fit tightly across the palm as well as the back of the hand.
Nike, FootJoy, US Kids and Lynx all make junior golf gloves in different junior sizes. Keep in mind that one manufacturers “Junior Medium” size may be very different than another’s. Your child may be able to wear a mens or womens small, depending on their hand size.
Another option would be to have them try on a Cadet small glove. Cadet sizing fits players whose fingers are shorter and palms are wider. Rain gloves are hard to find in junior sizes; buying a pair of Cadet small rain gloves to have on hand could prove to be a smart buy.
Gloves are also on the forefront of golf fashion, especially for your golfer girls. From the “Oh my gosh, these are so cute!!” files come
